Law of Democracy
by Samuel Issacharoff
Law of Democracy will examine critical issues in the legal regulation of the political system. The presentation will not focus on the technical issues of elections but on the overarching legal concerns over the integrity of the political system. Among the topics of discussion will be the relation between constitutional law and the range of political power, the role of judicial review, and the emergence of constitutional courts as guarantors of democratic accountability.
One of the sessions will address the particular problems of antidemocratic groups that seek to flourish within the tolerance of democratic politics, as well as the problem of the use of state authority to shore up the power of the dominant political party.
